Concerto Inn
First Impressions
Walking up to Concerto Inn on Hung Shing Yeh Beach, you immediately know you’ve found something different. This three-star property sits right on one of Lamma Island’s most beautiful stretches of sand, and honestly, the beachfront location alone makes it worth considering. The building itself is modest — no flashy lobby or grand entrance — but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup that I actually appreciated.
The Island Experience
Here’s what you need to know about staying on Lamma Island: it’s a completely different pace from central Hong Kong. You’ll take a ferry from Central Pier (about 30 minutes), and suddenly you’re in this laid-back world where bicycles outnumber cars and the biggest decision is whether to grab seafood at one of the waterfront restaurant in Yung Shue Wan village. The inn capitalizes on this perfectly — you’re literally steps from the beach, which means morning walks along the shore become part of your routine whether you planned it or not.
Your Room and Amenities
The room I stayed in was simple but clean, with that slightly worn charm you’d expect from a beachside inn. Don’t expect high-end furnishings here — the decor is basic and the bathrooms are compact — but everything works and the sea breeze through the windows makes up for any lack of fancy amenities. What surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, just the sound of waves and maybe some distant conversation from the village. There’s a game room downstairs that’s actually pretty popular with families, and I noticed kids gravitating there in the evenings.
Beach Life and Activities
Hung Shing Yeh Beach is genuinely one of Hong Kong’s better swimming spots, and having it right outside your door changes everything about your stay. The water’s clean enough for swimming (something you can’t say about all Hong Kong beaches), and there are decent hiking trails that start practically from the inn’s doorstep. I mean, you can walk to the island’s wind farm in about an hour, or take the coastal path toward Sok Kwu Wan if you’re feeling ambitious. The beachfront setup means you can grab coffee from the village, walk back to your spot on the sand, and spend the morning reading — which is exactly what I ended up doing.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to really connect with this place, and I get why — there’s something romantic about being on an island, even if it’s just a ferry ride from the city. The 8.9 location rating from couples makes perfect sense when you experience those sunset walks along the beach. It’s not about fancy amenities or room service; it’s about stepping off Hong Kong’s usual tourist track and finding this quieter side of the territory. Sure, you’ll need to plan your meals around the village restaurants hours, and yes, the last ferry back to Central is around 10:30 PM, but that’s part of what makes staying here feel like a mini-escape rather than just another hotel night.
