Urbanwood Hung Hom
First Impressions
Walking into Urbanwood Hung Hom, you immediately notice how they’ve nailed that modern urban vibe without feeling cold or sterile. The lobby has this warm wood-meets-industrial aesthetic that actually works — I mean, the name pretty much tells you what you’re getting. It’s a four-star property that feels fresh and thoughtfully designed, sitting right in the heart of Hong Kong‘s Kowloon side where you get that authentic local energy without the tourist circus.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about Gillies Avenue South — you’re in Hung Hom, which honestly feels like discovering Hong Kong’s best-kept secret. The location scores an impressive 8.8 from recent guests, and couples especially seem to get it, rating it 8.3 for romantic getaways. You’re close enough to Tsim Sha Tsui that you can walk there in about 15 minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the crowds and inflated prices. The red Hung Hom ferry pier is practically next door, giving you this gorgeous harbor route to Central that most tourists never experience.
The Room Experience
The room design really reflects that “urbanwood” concept — clean lines with warm timber accents that make the space feel bigger than it actually is. You know what surprised me? The attention to detail in the lighting and how they’ve maximized every inch without making it feel cramped. The windows frame the city views nicely, and if you’re lucky enough to get a harbor-facing room, well, you’ll understand why couples rate this place so highly. Storage is smart too — they’ve thought about where travelers actually need to put their stuff.
Breakfast and Practical Perks
The breakfast situation is pretty straightforward — they do American-style options and breakfast to go, which honestly works perfectly if you want to grab something and explore early before the city gets too busy. I actually appreciate that they’re not trying to be everything to everyone with some massive buffet. The grab-and-go option is clutch when you want to catch that morning ferry or beat the crowds at the markets in nearby To Kwa Wan.
Why Guests Love It
This place gets an 8.3 overall rating because it delivers on what modern travelers actually want — a well-designed space in a location that feels authentically Hong Kong without the tourist markup. You’re staying where locals live and work, with easy access to both the business district and some of the city’s best hole-in-the-wall eateries. The Hung Hom area has this emerging creative scene that most guidebooks haven’t caught onto yet, and you’ll find yourself stumbling across art studios and local cafes that feel like genuine discoveries. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Hong Kong — it’s just really good at being exactly what it is.

Guest Reviews
The shower was good although a bit cramped with the window. The situation was excellent to go to Hong Kong Coliseum. There are also a lot of restaurant in the neigborhood and even a vegetarian restaurant right next door ! The hotel provides the usual shampoo and soap but you need to pay extra for the other necessities.
