The Upper House
First Impressions
Walking into The Upper House feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly sophisticated private residence — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited resources. This five-star hotel sits right above Pacific Place in Hong Kong, and honestly, the moment those elevator doors open on the 38th floor lobby, you know you’re somewhere special. The design is all clean lines and natural materials, with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the city like living artwork.
The Location Advantage
You’re basically in the heart of Admiralty, which means you can walk to Central’s business district or hop on the MTR without any fuss. What I love about this spot is that Pacific Place connects directly to the hotel — you can shop, dine, or catch a movie without stepping outside. The couples who stay here absolutely rave about the location, and I get why. There’s something romantic about being perched high above the city buzz while still being connected to everything that matters in Hong Kong.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was more like a serene sanctuary than typical hotel accommodation. Everything feels deliberately chosen — the massive windows, the soaking tub positioned to catch city views, even the way the lighting shifts throughout the day. The beds here are genuinely something special; I mean, I’m usually a light sleeper in hotels, but I slept like a baby every single night. There’s this sense of space that’s rare in Hong Kong, where every square foot usually counts for something.
Dining and Daily Rhythms
Breakfast at Café Gray is actually worth waking up for, which says something. They do this interesting mix of Continental, Asian, and American options, but it’s the quality that gets you — everything tastes like it was made by someone who actually cares. The restaurant scene here is solid, though honestly, with all of Hong Kong’s dining options just steps away, you’ll probably want to explore. Still, when you do eat in-house, you won’t be disappointed. There’s also parking available if you’re driving, which is pretty rare and valuable in this part of the city.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most is how many people come back here — the repeat guest rate is unusually high, and that tells you something about the experience. It’s not just the luxury touches (though those are certainly present), it’s more about how the place makes you feel. The staff remembers your preferences, the spa treatments actually leave you relaxed rather than rushed, and there’s this overall sense that someone thought carefully about what travelers actually want. You know what? Sometimes you find a hotel that just gets it right, and The Upper House is one of those places that understands the difference between impressive and truly comfortable.
