Hang Fung Hostel
First Impressions
Walking into Hang Fung Hostel on the 14th floor of New Lucky House, you know what you’re getting — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. This three-star spot doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, but it nails the basics in one of Hong Kong’s most electric neighborhoods. The elevator ride up gives you a moment to mentally prepare for the energy you’re about to dive into once you step back onto Nathan Road.
Location Magic
I mean, you really can’t beat this spot on Nathan Road — it’s like being dropped right into the heart of everything that makes Hong Kong pulse. You’re literally surrounded by the neon chaos of Tsim Sha Tsui, with the Star Ferry just a quick walk away and Temple Street Night Market practically on your doorstep. What surprised me most was how couples seem to absolutely love it here — they’ve rated the location 9.5 for romantic trips, which makes sense when you think about those harbor views and late-night dim sum runs you can do on foot.
The Room Reality
Let’s be real about the room situation — this is Hong Kong, so space comes at a premium. But the rooms are clean, functional, and honestly, you’re probably not going to spend much time in there anyway with all of Kowloon calling your name outside. The windows give you glimpses of the urban jungle below, and there’s something oddly comforting about falling asleep to the distant hum of one of the world’s busiest streets.
Neighborhood Insights
What I love about staying here is how you become part of the local rhythm without even trying. Morning brings the scent of fresh pineapple buns from bakeries downstairs, while evenings turn Nathan Road into this incredible light show that never gets old. You’re within walking distance of the Space Museum, the Cultural Centre, and — this is key — some of the best street food in the city. The MTR connections are fantastic too, so you can easily hop over to Hong Kong Island or venture into the New Territories.
Why Guests Love It
That 8.2 rating and 9.4 location score tell the real story here. People come for the authentic Hong Kong experience, not for fancy amenities, and Hang Fung delivers exactly that. You’re staying where locals actually live and work, not in some tourist bubble. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out — they’ll point you toward the best late-night eats or help you navigate the organized chaos that is Hong Kong’s public transport. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re actually experiencing the city rather than just visiting it, and honestly, that’s worth way more than thread counts or marble bathrooms.

Guest Reviews
Room was - well - ridicolously small, as expected, but sparkly clean and the bed was very comfortable.
Polly was very nice, kind and caring. The house dog was funny and incredibly quiet.
All in all, a good experience: just be prepared to pay way more then you would pay almost anywhere else in the world, but that's just how it works in HK, I guess.
