EAST Residences
First Impressions
Walking into EAST Residences, you immediately get that sleek, modern vibe that Hong Kong does so well. The lobby feels fresh and uncluttered — honestly, it’s a nice break from some of the more traditional hotels in the city. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. You know what I mean? There’s something about the energy here that feels more relaxed, even though you’re staying at a four-star property.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about Quarry Bay — it’s not where most tourists end up, but that’s actually what makes it brilliant. You’re in Hong Kong proper, but away from the chaos of Central or Tsim Sha Tsui. Taikoo Place is this massive business district, so during weekdays it’s buzzing with office workers, which gives you a real feel for how locals live. The MTR station is literally right there (I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and onto the Island Line), and you’re maybe 10 minutes to Causeway Bay or 15 to Central. Plus, there’s this whole underground mall system that connects everything — perfect when it’s pouring rain or stupidly hot outside.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was surprisingly spacious for Hong Kong standards — and trust me, that’s saying something. These are actually serviced apartments, so you get a proper kitchen with a full-size fridge, which is a game-changer if you’re staying more than a few nights. The floor-to-ceiling windows give you these sweeping views, and depending on which side you’re on, you might catch glimpses of Victoria Harbour. The bed was comfortable enough, though the pillows were a bit soft for my liking. What I really appreciated was the washing machine in the unit — after a few days of Hong Kong’s humidity, being able to do laundry without hunting down a service was honestly a relief.
Dining & Amenities
The building shares space with the main EAST hotel, so you get access to their restaurant and facilities. The rooftop bar is actually pretty decent — not the fanciest in the city, but the views are solid and the cocktails don’t cost a fortune. There’s also a small gym and pool area, though I’ll be honest, the pool is more for a quick dip than serious swimming. What’s really handy is the 24-hour convenience store in the building and the fact that you’re connected to all the shops and restaurants in Taikoo Place without stepping outside.
Why Guests Love It
Look, if you want to experience Hong Kong like you actually live here rather than just passing through, this place nails it. The location gets rave reviews from couples especially, and I can see why — it feels more intimate and local than staying in the tourist zones. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but you get to come home to a quiet neighborhood where you can actually hear yourself think. The apartment-style setup means you’re not eating every meal out (which your wallet will thank you for), and there’s something nice about having your own space to spread out after long days exploring the city.
